Scripture Alone

In the Stand series, our next focus was Scripture Alone - What it means to have our faith based on the word of God - the Bible. To share this message, Mark Owen, from the Bible Society, came to share with us. Unpacking a message from Acts chapter 8, Mark drew some great points about what we need to be doing in our lives, to be living on God word.

Spending time with God so we can hear what he has to say. Studying God's word so we are able to share it. Living passionately committed to the cause of Christ. It's time to stop being busy, dust off our bibles and get into what God has to offer in his word. Read your bible today!

Faith Alone

What do we stand on? Faith Alone.

Often it is very easy for us to add stuff to this. Faith in ourselves. Faith in our works. Faith in Jesus plus church attendance. Faith in God and doing good things. But when it comes down to it, when we say "Faith Alone" what we mean is faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Pastor Joel Pukallus addressed us tonight with a message that we may have heard before, but is far from old, dusty or boring. Faith in Jesus is what saves us, and that faith is a gift from God. Joel took the time to remind us all that God always comes down. If any of our salvation were up to us, we would either be proud or disparing. Thankfully, we can be neither, because it's not up to us. God always comes down to save us.

Faith in him alone, is what we can stand on.

Christ Alone

smokey the fire-pig

Kicking off the "Stand" series, Sean Conry spoke tonight on what could be considered "the basics". Who is going to love you and care for you just the way you are, no matter what? Christ Alone. It seems so simple, and yet at the same time, we struggle to believe the truth of it.

Using the characters from "What do People do all Day?" by Richard Scarry, Sean introduced us to Smokey the Fire-pig. Smokey seemed to be the answer to our question. He was waiting for the call to save, he was ready to jump in, he didn't have any provisos about who he would save: he just saved them. Is Smokey the Fire-pig really our saviour though?
